Our History

PS Energy Group, Inc. was established in 1985 by Livia Whisenhunt as a wholesale marketer of bulk transportation fuels. Since its incorporation in the state of Georgia in 1986, PS Energy Group has grown to become the nation's third largest Hispanic-owned energy company (cited by Hispanic Business Magazine 2009), and one of the top diversity-owned businesses in the United States.

The firm began as a wholesale distributor of natural gas, gasoline, and diesel fuel to industry and government. Through the acquisition of Unattended Fuel Outlets (UFOs) in metro Atlanta in 1989, the company expanded to serve retail customers. In 1998, PS Energy Group, under the brand name GasKey™, became one of the first certified marketers in Georgia's deregulated natural gas program. Ten years later, PS Energy Group sold GasKey™ to MXenergy.

Developing the Industry Model for Fuel Management

PS Energy Group won its first fuel management contract with Southern Company in 1993 and began selling fuel management services to other major utilities as well as to state and county governments and municipalities. In 1995, the company signed a long-term agreement with a major utility company to launch an innovative program designed to provide emergency fueling services for its fleets throughout a nine-state area in the southeast. This emergency fueling program now provides fueling services nationwide to industry and utilities, in times of crisis or whenever natural disasters strike.

During the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, PS Energy Group was awarded a contract with the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games and the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority to build and manage temporary fueling sites for transit buses that were brought in to accommodate increased transportation needs.

In 2000, PS Energy Group began marketing the etrac™ real-time Global Positioning System Automated Vehicle Location (AVL) system. The etrac™ system, which was designed to help fleet operators improve their companies' productivity and profitability, quickly developed to include wireless tank monitoring and telematics solutions that also contribute to improved environmental quality. Loomis, a leader in the cash handling services industry, signed a contract in 2008 to monitor the security of its U.S. armored fleet through PS Energy Group's etrac™ solutions.
